About Us

Home Made Ice Cream

Thank you for visiting Rodeo Whip, we are a family owned and operated ice cream shop in South DeLand serving home made ice cream, soft serve, sundaes, and shakes.

Rodeo Whip opened its door in October, 1983 by founder, Joyce Doolittle.  Joyce, a native of Massachusetts, moved to DeLand in 1976 with her husband Francis and daughter Paula.

Since then the company has been through many changes.  in 1983 the building was an open, patio style ice cream shop offering soft serve ice cream as a base for their desserts.  In the following years, the patio was enclosed and a line of hand dipped hard ice cream was added to the menu, supplied by an ice cream club.

Not long after, the restaurant bought its first batch freezer allowing Joyce to make homemade flavors right on sight.

Following the tornado of February 2007, her daughter Paula, and Son-in-law Michael joined the management of Rodeo Whip.  Now, grandson Jere and his wife Mariah help manage the shop with Paula.  Recently, ice cream production has moved to the building just north of Rodeo Whip, providing more space for production and storage.

We appreciate your business and hope to provide our customers with quality sweet treats for many years to come.
